Miles Kane has described the sound of his forthcoming second solo album as "big, positive and upbeat".

The singer also confirmed that he would like to have the album come out "before the summer".

Speaking to Newsbeat, Miles Kane said much of the sound of the album is like the single Inhaler, featured on his first album.

"That was sort of the blueprint to make this real upbeat, heavy, catchy album. That's what I've done," he said.

He added: "I can't wait for it to get out there."

In February Miles Kane was part of the nationwide NME Awards Tour, performing alongside Django Django, Palma Violets and Peace.

"It was fantastic - it felt like we were part of something as a gang," he explained.

He released his debut solo album Colour Of The Trap in May 2011.

Miles Kane's latest single, Give Up, is out now.

It was obvious the title was in Miles Kane's thinking because he kept mentioning how much he liked the song and that particular line in recent interviews, it's good we have the title and hopefully not too long till we get the release date.

It all feels like it's coming together now.

i agree it's going to be shortened to DFWYA in a lot of places too. Personally I tend to see titles with 5 words being too lengthy. (just a personal preference)

We may have a bit of a wait yet for that new Last Of The Shadow Puppets' record. Despite, along with bandmate Alex Turner, having promised it was on the way on a regular basis over the last four years or so, Miles Kane has been keeping himself busy with a few other matters instead.

It's not actually been that long since he knocked out 'Colour Of The Trap', his debut record. Then, he called in mates like Noel Gallagher to work on backing vocals ('My Fantasy'), and French actress Clémence Poésy ('Happenstance'), as well as enlisting the writing services of best mate Turner and Gruff Rhys.

When it came to recording the follow up though, Kane's found himself a new partner in crime, calling in the lead singer of The Lightning Seeds, Ian Broudie. Having previously worked with The Zutons, The Subways and I Am Kloot, amongst others, he's been lending Miles a hand as he tries to circumnavigate any 'difficult second album' syndrome.

"I'm very happy with it; it's a great, upbeat, stomping album and I'm very proud of it," Kane says, speaking in the new issue of DIY Weekly. "We were playing the songs on this tour that we've just done, and they went down a storm; considering people haven't heard them before.

"Each song is catchy. They're all three minutes, and there's no fat on any songs, it's all condensed. There's no confusion over what any song is, it's very direct. There's a lot of positivity in this record, about feeling good, and the reasoning and stuff. There's a couple of angry songs that are in your face, but it's a statement, you know?"

Read the full interview in the new edition of DIY Weekly, available from iTunes now.
